Museum of Old and New Art’s Festival of Music and Art.

Mofo returns 12-22 January 2018:

Launceston 12-14 (they’ve got monkeys!),

Hobart 15-22 and at

Mona 19-21 : 2018 for a massive long weekend

It’s our last Mofo at Mona-maybe forever (Walshie’s building a hotel and he needs the space).

So we’re going out in style with a massive weekend of music and art at Mona on Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January.

Come and play

Violent Femmes + the TSO
Federation Concert Hall
Milwaukee’s original acoustic punk rockers will pull apart their music and put it back together with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Hell yeah.

Monumental
The Holy Body Tattoo
With live music by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Princess Theatre, Launceston

The Holy Body Tattoo will unleash riotous and revelatory contemporary dance in concert with a soaring (and effing loud) score performed live by Montreal’s celebrated post-rockers, Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Gotye Presents a Tribute to Jean-Jacques Perrey

Albert Hall, Launceston

Gotye and his pals will gather in concert to honour the late, great French electronic composer and pop visionary, Jean-Jacques Perrey, with a pre-synth extravaganza celebrating the Ondioline-an early, and now rare, electronic instrument.

Presented in a double bill with Skin Migration by Tannery, the Tasmanian Taiko and Leather Orchestra.

Launceston Block Party

QVMAG Courtyard, Inveresk

Registrations for the Block Party are all booked out. But fear not, mofos: there’ll be heaps of tickets available on the door, subject to capacity.

Calling all Launcestonians and interlopers: to kick off Mofo, we’re coming to the jewel of the north and throwing a great, big free festival street party. Music and art galore, of course, plus drinks aplenty and a proper spread by Mona’s Heavy Kitchen and local producers.

Faux Mo

MAC2, Hobart

Night club at the end of the world. Hold on tight.

Open Your Ceremony
Faux Mo: Friday Night
Jump Fuckers Jump
Faux Mo: Saturday Night
The Spell
Faux Mo: Sunday Night

Mofo Eastern Sho: Chakam Ensemble

The Barn, Rosny Farm, Hobart

A rare example of an all-female ensemble playing traditional Persian music. You’ll also be treated to a meze plate with a selection of Persian delicacies.

Exposure: Free Fall

Tasdance

Tasdance Studio, Launceston

An informal performance by aspiring contemporary dancers from around the country, fresh from Tasdance’s summer intensive program.

Cinemona, Mona

A series of films about everything from African American space philosophy and performance art to avant-garde gender reassignment surgery and cinema relating to Mona’s current exhibition, The Museum of Everything.

All films that screen during Mofo are included in the Three-Day Mona Pass or respective Day Pass from Friday 19-Sunday 21 January. After that, you’ll need to buy a ticket to the films listed below.

The World’s Greatest Sinner
The Space in Between: Marina Abramovic and Brazil

Transport to Mofo at Mona

Ferries and buses will run frequently between Brooke Street Pier, Hobart, and all the Mofo action at Mona.

Departure times are listed in the transport timetable on your ticket, online or in the festival program. For ferries and buses travelling out to Mona, please arrive at Brooke Street Pier 45 minutes prior to your preferred time of departure. Children under 4 ride for free, but you will still need to contact Ticket Support to make a booking. Phone +61 (3) 6277 9978.

If you’re attending all three days of Mofo at Mona, then your best bet is the Three-Day Mofo Transport Pass for $51 (a One Day Mofo Transport Ticket is $22). This is a festival shuttle service, which means ferry transport is not guaranteed. If you’re super keen to travel via ferry, you’ll need to arrive at Brooke Street Pier early. Otherwise, just catch one of our Mofo buses to the festival.

If you’re feeling fancy and want to guarantee a spot on the ferry, book the Posh Pit Ferry Ticket for $55 per day. Includes access to the ferry’s VIP lounge, bar and balcony plus complimentary Moorilla wine, Moo Brew beer and nibblies.
